I have a male betta in my community and there are girls in there too. Lately he has been paying them much more attention. i think hes growing up. My question is could i put him in a 4.5 US gallon tank that will be split in half With another male?
So 2 bettas having 2.25 US gallons each. I am in UK but it only had us gallons on the tank. Will they have enough room each.
Thanks
Sean

Why would you put them in together with girls in the first place! The suggested minimum is 1g so that'll be fine.

Yea like Wisperian said, MALES AND FEMALES ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HOUSED TOGHETHER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! We as betta enthusiasts cannot stress this enough. The male shall be fine in the seperated tank. In the future please do not house males and females toghether. Glad to be of survice :good:

Well its been fine for 6 months +, i am not new to bettas i know about the not mixing.

I don't usually get active in posts like this because I hate when others SHOUT UNASKED FOR ADVICE  about a topic not fully related to the thread. But, I'm just curious as to why you put them together if you knew they shouldn't be mixed. Honestly just curious, not trying to yell or get mad or anything :good:

Well one day my males heater smashed and the only tank he could go in had females in. I put him in and they were fine. No-one has been bitten or nipped so i left him there. But lately he has been paying them more attention no aggressive but inquizitive. So i thought i would seperatet them b4 it turns into aggression.

well that seems pretty responsible in my opinion. I don't see anything wrong if you were watching out for them all and there were no signs of aggression! how many females are there?

I'm with ezrock about the shouting--ironically off topic me

Your males should be fine splitting 4.5 usg. There actually is a converter someplace on the premises.

thanks guys for not shouting, i know its not recomended but it was that or the toilet and i dont flush live fish. Well i will get wouking on the tank split what can i use to devide the tank??

There is a do it yourself in the pinned threads. I just saw a do it yourself thread here

Myself I do very few diy. Too many water changes and new tanks to set up.

You can combine male and female Betta while they are still Juvis, Once the males and females come of age wars can start. I myself had to house a male and 2 females while i replaced a faulty tank, all was well for weeks then one evening all hell broke loose.

The obnoxious CAPITILIZATION was not to show shouting it was to emphasize the fact that males and females are not supposed to be housed together. Keep in mind I made that statement after knowing 1 thing, male and female bettas were kept together. I'm just trying to protect bettas in general.

understood....still lots of old timer computer people and those trained under them view capitalization as shouting. I do.

Usually with people who are willing to listen a reasoned approach like ezrock's, will accomplish more--I think anyway. If the person is open, a few questions to make sure what is really going on and some suggestions for better care are all that is needed. If the person is not open all the capitals in the world will not make an impact.

Sorry Betta5, I seem to have wandered off topic a bit. How are your boy and girls doing? I did wonder about the two girls together and am assuming that you are also keeping an eye on them. :look: Since I'm already off topic, thought I might manage a little further stroll. :p

My thoughts exactly hence my nice approach to it, which got a nice response back.

Loko: would it hurt to go about it nicely? I've seen so much yelling/etc at members on this forum lately it's kind of disconcerting...

betta5: do you have a pic of that tank? I'd love to have a nice long tank with a half dozen female bettas and some compatable other fish :) Nicely planted with lots of hidind places! Once I have room, I think I'll have to try that!
