Tank Setup

So I have a 10 gallon tank and I want to put a betta in it.
-Could I put sand in it?
-What type of filtration should I use?
-Any possible tankmates?

divide it into 2

1 betta each side.

Or 1 male betta,3-4 ottos.

ORRR 5 female bettas, and a few otoos!

sand would be fine, tankmates, some dwarf cories?

Yep sand is perfectly fine to use, a small HOB filter or a filter with an adjustable flow so that you can keep it slow to stop the fish being blown around the tank is best. Dwarf cories or Otos are great peaceful little fish ( the otos would need to be supplemented with algae tabs ) .
