Tank Readings

more or less yes. is there any possible way of getting round this? i let the water cycle for about 6 weeks before i put any thing in it. I am going to buy more rock friday, is that a good idea or worse now?
get rid of all fish or inverts or you will kill them, no way of getting rond it without taking them back or finding a temporary placement, then buy your live rock and get it in! test daily for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and PH. post them on here and we will tell you what to do, if you want corals you should start with a tank full of RO water

the fish seem well and so does the corals, but they will only get worse wont they? in the little book i got with the nutrafin test kit it says if the ammonia reading is below 1.2 keep adding nutrafin cycle on a regular dosage would i get away with that and plenty of water changes?

no no no. nutrafin cycle is the biggest pile of crap you can spend your money on, it doesnt work and is for freshwater tank, the live stock will die if you carry on. ammonia should be 0 ALWAYS. you cant get away with anything in marine...get the livestock (fish and corals) rehomed add more live rock and properly cycle, then slowly stock the tank, one fish every 7-10 days dependant on readings. are you sure your test kit is suitable for saltwater?

yes, it says it is. why would my tank be cycling again? iv had the filter runing all the time.

the live rock you put in has bacteria on it and acts as filtration. and filters become nitrate factorise if not maintained. and the bacteria dries during transport and it rots and causes ammonia, which helps the bacteria reproduce and colonize.

stop dosing the cycle, its doing more bad than good, and ignore what they say is safe ammonia and nitrite wise.

what could i do then apart from taking them all back would it be possible to get ro water and try that? or wont it work?

ok i will do mate, thanx for all the advice I will keep posting all my results.

the shop were i will buy the live rock from, is already in a tank and they give you it in tubs full of water. is it werth putting the water they give me with it in my tank instead of some of mine it there?

no get rid of their water it could be diseased etc, but even if it were the live rock will bring it in to the tank anyway. but dont use their water.
