I have several questions if anyone can help me here. I have a fry tank and lost most of my fry. Had gravel but removed it and added floating grass on top. The filter I was using to my surprise had sucked up some of the fry and they were still alive when i took out the filter. Any idea what kind of filter I can use for this tank or any ideas to modify the filter so that it doesnt happen again? Also in my 29 gal I have one filter but it came with one also. Is it better to use one or would two be better?

foam over the inlet

You use tank foam that can be purchased at any pet store and wrap it around the intake with a hair tie or rubber band. All my tanks have this and it works very well!

The easiest way that I have found to protect the inlet on a simple hang on back filter is to cut a slit into a filter sponge and slip it over the inlet. It ends yup looking like this after a few weeks.

Another alternative is to use a sponge filter instead of a conventional filter. Simple sponge filters are probably the best choice for fry tanks. A big one looks like this before you put them into the water.
