The substrate is just crushed coral that I bought in a bag from the lfs, and a bog standard bulb with a pink hint to it (cant remember the brand, but its one I've seen in most places). I did try the more natural light first as the guy said it would be better for the plants, but it made the tank look yellow
I've recently had to change the light and the plants have done great since. I just buy new ones and tidy them up every month or so. They are so cheap to buy its nothing to spend a couple of quid to brighten everything up.
