Tank of the month

I have been viewing through the differnt forums and have came across the tank of the month, fish of the month etc and was wondering why this has stopped because I really enjoyed looking through the posts and peoples set ups.

It gives me ideas on how I can improve my tank, not just visually but for my fish as well.

I understand that it may involve additional work for a moderator but as a "Newbie" I think it would be a brilliant addition to this already excellent site.

I apologise in advance if anyone has already posted on this subject, but would appreciate anyone else's comments on this subject especially any moderators.

I think it is a good way of people showing their endevours and to be honest we all appreciate some praise on what a good job we have done don't we, It is human nature after all.

The Of The Month competitions stopped because it happened more than once that people posted pictures that were not theirs. There is no way of telling if people are fair in it, and its just not fun anymore when people win with other persons photos.

A lot of people have tried to get the otm back, but noone succeeded so far

So why not do something as simple as getting a picture taken with the owner holding a picture of the days paper, you know just like they do in kidnap pictures for instance, sorry for been a bit flippant but if something is so popular then surely it is wrong to punish the many for the actions of the few???

Or even add a refrence number for the competition and have that put on the picture somewhere as long as the instructions were posted a so that everyone knew them and any pictures that did not comply were not even put into the competition.

Surely that would be ok???

What you're suggesting is that the tank sort of.. 'salute' I suppose, given the terms I understand on another website.

I'm part of a website where you submit your photo for rating.. No, it's not HotOrNot, it's a different site. If someone on the site believes that your picture is either too hot or too professional looking for it to be real, they can report you. You are then required to submit a salute, where you are holding a crumpled piece of paper with your username, the date, and the website written on it, clearly visible.

If something like this was done with the xOTM, I can see it working, but given the cheating that went on.. it can be easily photoshopped, that's why it was required that the paper be crumpled.. it's much harder to photoshop crumpled paper.

Though at one point you had to write it on a banana, because that's nearly impossible to photoshop a realistic one.. then they came to their senses.

What I fail to understand is why cheat, although I understand this would happen it sort of takes the spirit of the thing away doesn't it??

It does take the spirit away, and it does seem pointless, but that doesn't stop people from doing it.

Just like drinking and driving is senseless, but millions of people die every year from it anyway.

Humans as a race generally make stupid mistakes and do stupid things. [I suppose just about every living being does the same, though.]
The only difference is, many of us are far too proud to admit to the things we've done, let alone resist the temptation to cheat.

Its to bad. People must really not have a life when they post others photo's when they are tring to win.

Is there a moderator out there that would tell me if this is worth starting up again or has this had it's day due to people abusing it far too much??

I'm pretty sure it's done, to be honest..

I've seen about 4-6 threads on starting it back up in the last couple weeks, so chances are it's not going to happen as it hasn't already.

Well thats a shame, I do hope that a mod does look at this and if it has been put on as much as you say the it would seem that there is a demand but unfortunatley there is nothing I can do it would seem that the decision is a few pay bands above me!!

It would be nice to have it back again, but it's not absolutely necessary..
I think the site has been doing well without it.
