i have a 28 gallon tank was considering getting Lamprologus similis. i was wandering what are some fish that could go with them, i would get three if i got them.

maybe some julidochromis, cyprichromis leptosoma, a pair of peacocks (aulonocara sp). The peacocks will get to 5 inches but are reasonably peaceful so shouldn't be an issue. The lamprologus and neolamprologus are more agro than any of the above.

the same fish I mentioned above will go with caeruleus. You can also try Protomelis similis and Opthalmotilapia ventralis is you can afford them.

I wouldn't consider labs or Aulonocara for a 28 gal - most Peacocks actually reach 7" and are therefore too large for the tank and whilst labs are mild-mannered by Mbuna standards, they are still aggressive and should be kept in a 55 gal or larger IMO.
