i have a betta in a 3.5 gallon tank any suggestions for tank mates would be great :good:

with that size of a tank, i think the only suggestions you'll get will probably be shrimp or snails.

Agree to all of the above, but, if you don't have a good filter in the tank, it will not be a good idea to have snails ,because, they are heavy waste producers.

Wouldn't a shrimp be torn apart by the flowy-finned carnivore?

If I were you I wouldn't add tank mates. I've had Bettas in with catfish but in tanks that are 7 gallons. And only 3 catfish each only an inch long. There was enough room for everyone to avoid each other and we never had problems. However, in a smaller tank I wouldn't risk any problems breaking out. Just make it interesting with plants, a marble and such =)

well the thing is its not really my tank its my boyfriends and i was guessing around 3.5g but he thinks its more around five and it does a good built in filter and a heater, i have had two female platys die and i only have one female and a male in my 30g so i wanted to give him the male because it has been pestering more poor female platy. i just wanted to see everyones opinion on it before i jump into doing something.

im interesting in knowing what catfish?

in the end it depends on the betta, some get on with shrimps others eat them

I've had success in keeping said flowy fishy in a 5 gal with one african dwarf frog, but that was like 5 or 6 years ago...The betta went to the big pond in the sky though :-(
I miss my old betta...The ADF was way too much maintanence for my hellish schedule though.I gave him to my friend and he's frolicking in a 55 gallon with a betta and some glow lights.

Little Bronze albinos and a little peppered. The peppered catfish lost his two friends a while ago but now happily lives in our tank in the bedroom with the albinos where we will be introducing a new Betta soon! :D

Don't worry, they arn't monsters, just the cute little guys lol

well thats good to know, i was just checking to make sure they weren't common plecs :good:

so im guessing thats a no on the male platy and betta? -_-

Yeh, just dont go there. Why not get some nice plants instead for his tank. Looking at replies, and using common knowledge, we all know Bettas are different from one another. Some will live with shrimp and other such while some just wont. If you do venture into getting him a tank mate or two, be prepared to have to remove them straight away if trouble breaks out. That means having somewhere else for them to go or taking them back to the shop.

In answer to your platties, get some more females if you can or try rehoming the male or female to a friend or family member?
It is best to keep them in a trio, 2 females per one male. More if you have the room.

Hope this helps :good:
