I have two Danios. We just recently upgraded our tank to a ten gallon and now want to get maybe two or three more small fish into our tank. I'm not sure what breed to get that will live well with the Danios. It's either fish I would like need some aquarium salt (Like the mollies or platies.) or could possibly kill our fish (like a big goldfish). Any suggestions? Can Danios even live with a little aquarium salt??

The one I'm thinking of getting is a rainbowfish, or just more danios. The other thing is I don't have a heater yet. My tank is at a constant 70F degrees. So then I'd need one that could live at that temp until I have a heater.

So yeah... Help? :)

You might want a 15gal or more at a push for these guys and you'll also want a group of 6 to keep them happy. I know you can keep these without a heater but I suggest getting one anyway just to make sure there are no temp dips. The slightly warmer it is the more color they bring out.

Definitely get a heater. Techen is right about the danios. Something I learned about them is you really do need a larger shoal. Danios, with their activity level, will chase other fish if they don't have enough of their own kind. This won't hurt the other fish directly, but the chasing will stress them out. That can lead to disease

They prefer 18-25C (64-77F), so they're fine, but I agree with Techen, it's good to get one just to make sure the temperature is kept stable.
Some would recommend a 3-4ft tank due to how active they are. And definitely please get some more of them, they should be kept in groups of 6+.

Rainbowfish are also recommended to have a minimum of a 4ft tank due to their large size and activity levels. Goldfish get too big for this tank.

Sorry I don't really know what you could put in with them since they're more subtropical, and as said the high activity level could stress other fish out. Plus this tank is a bit small :/

Yeah I do know the tank is a little small, but I was thinking of getting some small (for the time anyway) fish until we upgrade again. I will probably wait now. I didn't realize how active and nippy Danios where until my bf brought them home one day. I might someday just have one school of danios in one tank.

The heater is being shipped as we speak. I wasn't paying 50+ dollars for a heater from Petsmart.

I wouldn't put anything with the danios until you can get a few more of them. In larger groups they are less likely to get nippy with other fish in the tank. I think a 10 gallon would be just about the bare minimum for a school of danios, and wouldn't put any other types of fish with them unless you can get at least a 20 gallon tank

I would say rehome those zebra danios as they need to live in bigger groups and in larger tanks. 10 G is to small for them. Then you can chose some new fish even though your options will not be great with that tiny tank. Here is a list of possible species.
