I got about a 4in jaguar cichlid in a 50 gallon tank with a small catfish. Is there any other kind of cichlid i can add to the tank that would do well with the jaguar or should I just leave the jaguar alone????

Hi, TBH you will need to be upgrading the tank pretty soon, Jags are quick growers and Males will reach a good 16" in captivity, They can also be highly aggressive so if you are wanting other cichlids as tankmates then you would be looking at a big tank, (something around 6x2x2) Although even on its own a Jag will require a tank of at least 100G.

In a large tank, tankmates such as a Salvini, Red Devil or Texas might work, but then again may go terribly wrong, All depends on the temperament of the specific fish you have

Hi and Welcome to the Forum. Agree with Davo here.

If you do want any tankmates, best to introduce them while the Jag is still young, but you would most definitely need a bigger tank, as they won't share a 50 gallon for long and 50's not fit for life for a Jag.

My lfs had a pair of adult Jag's in a 150 which they made look small, but the male got so aggressive killed the female, then he cornered all of the other tankmates (pikes). Last I saw the Jag was 'sharing' the tank with a blackbelt. HTH.
