I had to separate one of my male bettas from the girls as he was just down right nasty. Normally I have no problems with a male being in with 3-4 girls but he was the exception. I ran out of tanks to put him in but I do have one inside with discus and guess where he went. Yes you can now put on your list as discus being another fish that is ok to have as a tank mate for bettas. He is loving it and eats what the discus eat.....doubled his size in 2 weeks and is looking very healthy and fit. All of them get on so well together one big happy family. :good:

That's good to know! (and a relief for you, I bet!)
Just totally out of curiosity, what's the size of the tank he was in with the girls? Just wondering for my own future reference- I have no experience with female bettas (or the possibility of male and females being mixed), but we're buying a house soon and I'll have more space to work with! :D

I have a 260 litre with two males and 20+ females in it. All living happily and never once seen any sign of fin nipping or aggression. I know that this makes me very lucky,- but it shows that it can be achieved in certain cases. My two boys live at opposite ends of the tank, but do cross sides or meet in the middle on occasion. My HM will just flare at my PK and the PK returns to his own end! :D

He was in a 2 foot tank with 5 females. I now have another male in with the girls and he is very good with them. It was just this one male ....most of the time I have no problems housing the mix. :)

Now that is good to hear.....You must have enough room in your tank where their territory boundary lines don't cross. If that makes any sense. Love to see a photo of your set up.....must look very colourful with all those girls.

The tank is full of Amazon Frogbit and Java Fern so they've lots of places to hide out. They are beautiful I must say  I've also got a full grown female Moonlight Gourami, plus a female adult Angel fish in with them! I know that they are big no-no's but again,- never had a problem. The gourami and angel I've had for years before the bettas came along and they just accepted them straight off. :good:

Hmm! I have a 30 gallon tank that I've never set up (it was my aunts; she didn't have the space for it anymore) but I'd like to set it up in our new house.
What suggestions do you guys have? Bettas are my favorite, so if I wanted to have a male betta in there with some females, how many would you suggest?

Well lets hope your male isn't like the one I separated.....but I'd go for a nice male and 5 females. The corys would be a good tank mate also so you could have maybe 5 of them in there as well. :)

I reckon if you have a lot of plants for the fish to hide in then having the no no tank mates should be just fine. But its an individual decision....what works for some doesn't work for others. So are we gonna see some pics of your tank? :)
