i have 6 sterbai in a 35L 6 sided tank, and as much as i love my corys it just looks too bare as they tend to stay down below.

what would be a suitable tank mate? i was going for a crowntail betta, but a) i couldnt get one anywhere, and b) ive since found out a betta with corys although sometimes works, may lead to disaster if the betta will not tolerate them.

so im looking for one or two more fish for the tank no more (so shoaling fish is not an option) something that will like the mid/upper levels of a tank. im trying to go for a fish i dont already have so
angels
danios
tetras (serpae, cardinal,emperor)
platys
mollys
swordtails
killifish
gouramis
are also of the list.

sorry to be so fussy but any recommendations?

As the Cories stay at the bottom - mostly - How about something that tends to spend a lot of time at the top like Mountain minnows (edit: White cloud mountain minnows)? They are fairly small fishies so you could probably have 3 of them.

In my experience they do swim around, but tend to stay about and inch below the surface, bickering between themselves.

Coryadoras catfish like to be in large groups (at least 6) However I have known people to keep just 1 and be fine.

tbh if u have a hexegen style tank and only 35l IMO thats way 2 small for a group of cory's theres not a of alot space bottom level for active swimming but adding other fish u could try couple guppies , platties ect little small for mollies i would say but either way 35l doesnt give u much play room :)

hi jen, they seem fine in the tank, any signs of unhappiness they can go back to the community tank. i moved them as they were being harassed by the plecs and banjo catfish, they seem much happier here and aren't spending the day hiding now, they are out and about all day :) do you really think its too small? :( i dont want platies or mollys in there, may try two male guppies though thanks for that :) in the future they will be moving to another tank, its just for the next few months they cant as their babies (22 little sterbai) are currently growing nicely there. ive never managed to get babies to survive this long so dont want to blow their chances putting the adults back in there yet.

mountain minnows are an idea but i always thought they were shoaling fish?

Are you sure its 35L that pretty small, as for other fish something like a Honey or Dwarf Gouramis

the guy i bought it from said it was 35L ive not actually measured it myself, how do you calculate the volume of an odd shaped tank?

Is it a specific make of tank

Measure it as you fill it up

Dunno spish, someone with a better answer will be along shortly!

i'd have to wait until it needs emptying again, could be a long wait though!
