Tank- Marine To Tropical?

Hey all,

As the title says really. I'm still a rookie so don't really have a clue haha
Will I need a new filter and what not or can it be cleaned?
I've been putting a few ads around and what's come back is a 310l fully set up marine tank. He's selling it for £250. I don't know if this is a good price or not?
I'm going to ring him and get all the info on weekend.

It depends on what equipment comes with the tank. Most saltwater gear can be used in a tropical setting, aside from protein skimmers and the like. I see no reason you cannot salvage the filters, they just need a good scrub before you use them.

The substrate might be a different matter. Most marine substrates contain calcium carbonate which will raise your pH and hardness. This is only suitable in freshwater if you are keeping rift lake cichlids.

And I was thinking I would have to get new substrate but that's not a huge loss. He also said the live rock comes with it. Is live rock easy to sell?

ask him to email you a complete list of whats included.. but if it really is a complete setup inc rock for that size and price i would go for it

you wont have any problems selling the rock for 5-£6 kg .. but why would you want to? ( its early i may have missed something)
i deffo wouldnt use the substrate that comes with it only because after a move it tends to cause high nitrate problems

£5 a rock! Bit bliddy expensive! Why's it so much?
But yeah that's the plan.

thats not expensive..at any LFS you can expect to pay £12 a kg
make sure it is live rock and NOT ocean rock.. cos that would fetch maybe £1.20 Kg on a resale
