Tank Lighting

Stress from tank lights coming on when the room is dark can be an issue. Fish don't have eyelids and don't tolerate going from complete dark to bright light (or vice versa) instantly.

In the morning open the curtains or turn the room light on at least 30 minutes (or more) before turning the tank light on. This will reduce the stress on the fish and they won't go from a dark tank to a bright tank instantly.

At night turn the room light on and then turn the tank light off. Wait at least 30 minutes (or more) before turning the room light out. This allows the fish to settle down for the night instead of going from a brightly lit tank to complete darkness instantly.

I have my lights on a timer so in the morning the tank is lighted by light coming into the room from the windows and at 10 am the tank lights go on. At 9 pm the lights go off but a room light (dim) stays on until 10pm and then goes off. That way the fish have a sunrise and also have a sunset.

I might not be able to get a bigger tank at the moment, but I will put this into consideration
It is not something to put into consideration to make your pets feel better, if I were you, I would give all the goldies to an lfs.

I finally got a 29 gallon aquarium, for 3 goldfish. I hope it is okay. As they grow, I will upgrade the tank

They should be fine for a while, just keep the tank clean and feed them a varied diet containing lots of plant matter. :)
