Tank Light Timer

Hi quick question.

I will be away from home at christmas for about a week and a half & was wondering if anyone could direct me to a decent tank light timer... and do timers just need to be set once & will last till you adjust it again?

theses work a treats for my tanks =] set them once they just tick away and turn on when you need them to =D
they only need to be set once... unless you hit it and push one of the up things down or vice verser

you can pick them up in most department stores to be honest.

if your away for a week and a half how are you fish going to be fed?. i know they can last about a week or more without food but do you have any plans for feeding?

I was going to use a 14 day feeder block... would that be fine do you think? The only thing im worried about is that i've never used these feeder block things & don't know if they would actually eat it....

i wouldn't use a feeding block, they polute the tank easily.
Try automatic feeder maybe? or maybe get a neighbour of friend to feed them- you would have to set out portions so they wouldn't over feed.

you could get them to feed them once mid trip and they should survive or maybe twice

Your fish will be fine for that long without food. If you're really worried, you can separate out a portion of food and put it in a tub and ask someone to give it half way through, but there's no need really, and please don't use one of those feeding blocks, they are a fast track to a polluted tank and an ammonia spike

The lights timers you can get at most supermarkets for not much money, don't know where you are, but I can get them in all my local supermarkets for £3 - £5, depending on whether I want a digital one or not. They're well worth it

Im in uk, middlesbrough... not really seen any in the supermarkets i go in... but they are on ebay for like £3 so probably order one from there.

Usually with the lightbulbs, plugs, DIY stuff etc, or at least, they certainly are in all my local Tesco/Asda/Morrison's stores but yeah, £3 off eBay sounds good.

The only problem I have with the manual one (where you have to press/raise little sections to designate on/off) is that my youngest daughter keeps going and pressing random bits on it, so myself or the man-wife will random go to the toilet in the middle of the night and discover the fishtank light has been set to go on at 4am for 15 minutes

Wickes, screwfix, toolstation, all good for timer plugs in the UK. Although the fish don't need any light, its just for the plants and us looking at them, so if you don't have any plants don't worry about it ;-)
