I checked my levels 2 weeks ago and they were perfect, my platy had fry on Friday so just checked levels again and worried now, they are as follows
Ph 7.4
Ammonia 0.25ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate somewhere between 80ppm and 160ppm (it looks blood red if that helps)

How can I get my nitrate down? Can I do a large water change with fry in the breeding box? (Before anyone says breeding box is bad I am getting a new tank tomorrow where I hoped to transfer some water from this tank into new tank with the adult fish and allow fry to have this tank)

Someone please help
Many thanks

Do you have Nitrate in your tap water?

How often do you perform a water change and how much each time?

You can only reduce Nitrates by adding live plants which will use these Nitrates as food, or doing water changes, and you will only be able to get the Nitrates as low as it is in the tap water.
I would recommend doing multiple smaller water changes so you don't shock the fish. Once the Nitrates are around 10 you should be fine. These water changes will also help reduce the Ammonia levels in your tank, your fry will thank you! :)

As for fry food, I don't really know, but I would try finely crushed flakes until you have a better recommendation.

I normally do a 20% water change every week, it's due one now but was worried because of fry, I might do a 20% and hope for best with babies!
I have liquid fry food which I brought yesterday and that seems to be going well, so far not lost any fry.

How many gallons is the tank please?
How many fish and which type.
What is the name of the test kit you are using.
What is your tap nitrate reading?
