my whole 30g tank is infected with ich. i dont know what to do. i keep doing water changes. i have taken the salinity down from 1.025 to 1.020. i have feed my fish garlic covered food. and i dont have a qt tank what should i do?

fish i have in there are coral beauty, clown goby, 2 tiny clowns, and a tiny blue tang. temp is 79 degrees. anybody have any other suggestions?

Is it a fish only system or do you have inverts in there as well?

If it is fish only then I would treat them with copper. If you have inverts in there than the only real way to treat them properly is in a QT so you can us copper based medication.

Lowering the salinity does help fight ich but you need it lower then that which is no good if you have inverts.

Garlic has actually been proven not do anything for a fishes immune system so I wouldnt worry to much about using it (though it can help to get fish to eat as an attractant).

If you dont have a QT you could always pick up a cheap plastic container to put them in. It is very hard to figh ich in a tank with inverts in it unfortunetly (I'm going through the same problems at the moment so I feel your pain :) ).

There are some supposidly "reef safe" medications you can use. I have never tried any of them so cant talk from personal experience but from the ones I have read about they either dont work or they are not very reef safe.

The only other things to do is to make sure the water quality is as good as possible (maybe a couple of large water changes) and putting on a UV unit as well may help to slow the ich reproduction down enough for the fish to be able to recover.

ok ya i do have a invert in there. its a cleaner shrimp. alright thanks for the help ill keep trying.

As Barney says, get your self a cheap plastic container, you know those stackable box type ones - stick the fish in there with a powerhead and heater and dose with Copper

Sorry you have problems :-(
