My tank had ich, so I treated it by turning the temp up to 86, added some salt, and also ich treatment (Jungle Tabs). The ich is off the fish and I have done some water changes so hopefully most of it is out of my sand. However my fish began to act strange so I tested the water and the ammonia is 2ppm and Nitrite 4ppm! Did my the Jungle tabs kill the beneficial bacteria as well as the ich? What should I do? I have a 40 gallon long tank.

The Ammonia is the threat, the Nitrite can be blocked with small amounts of salt. Please read this article for some thoughts. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/433778-rescuing-a-fish-in-cycle-gone-wild-part-il/

The odds are you can try two things here:

1. Water changes to lower ammonia and then salt for the nitrite.
2. Get a hold of some Dr Tim's One and Only. When it comes, follow the directions. Do a big water change before you add it and be sure to turn off the tank lights for 24 hours.

If you remove all of the ammonia and nitrite via water changes, it will take longer to get your tank back into proper shape and you will be doing these changes for some time.

have you checked the tank for dead fish? Are they all present and accounted for? That would be my first thing to look at. Especially as you've had illness in the fish.

I know nothing of the treatment you used as it's not one available in the U.K but did it say on the packaging 'safe for plants and filters'? Some meds won't kill your bacteria (or your plants) but some do and this may be what has happened.

If you can rule out any fish deaths from the whitespot then that rules out the possibility that you have a body rotting and causing the ammonia and nitrite. The next step is loads of water changes until you can re-build the filter bacteria - unless your lfs can give you some media. And follow what TTA has said :)
