HI Folks,
I have a fish tank a new one lately RIO 125 (JUWEL) with fitted filter- ]
I got rid of my old tank which had a filtration system together with gravel filtration ....
I have about 5 neons , 2 Cardinals , 4 Harlequins and the water has got dirty within 5 days ....

Never had any problems in the past .... but not having luck now with the tank
Is there anything I'm, doing wrong ??????

Make sure your filter system is clean and not clogged. Maybe you need to gravel vac.

Hi ashwika, What do you mean by dirty? Can you see waste on the gravel, does the water have a lot of particles floating in it or is the water discolouring? Do you have wood or any live plants in there? Overfeeding might also be the problem.

I have personally only ever found the Juwel filter to be adequate and had problems myself with water not being as clean as I would have liked. Ended up moving to an external filter (Juwel 305) - next morning the water was crystal clear!

how long has this tank been set up if its only been set up for 5 days then it needs to cycle properly

I have a rio 180 and have added an external filter/pump to the set up i have both internal and external pumps running.

to clean the gravel go buy a vacum pump which will suck all the dirt away from your gravel and just keep cleaning your tank every few days.

My tank took nearlly 2 weeks before it lost it's cloudy'ness (my fault for not cleaning my gravel correctly and having the bright idea to by normal pathway garden............which is being replaced in the new year.

I got rid of my Juwel internal filter, and have had much better results with my external filter. Problem is, they do cost a bit more though.

When i did have the juwel filter, it was important to change the white wool bit frequently. This helps.

Also, when you clean/do water changes, i found it useful to remove all sponges from the filter housing (keeping them in tank water) and syphon the bottom of the internal filter housing. This can be an area where wast can gather. This means once you have done the tank and put the filter back on, it might circulate some of the dirt back into the tank.

hope that helps

I personally like the Fluval 205 or 305. They are so easy to setup and prime, very good quality.
How quiet are external filters? Any more or less than internal?

I went to nearest tropical//marine fish shop - They have a Tetratec EX 1200 External Filter
which he recommended - has anyone used this ???? and is it quiet ????

I took my Juwel filter out and got an Ehiem pro 2 2026 for my Vision 260
Works a treat. Very quiet too!! :shifty:

I have a 125 tank, but I use a Fluval 3 Plus Filter together with a 9v UV steriliser. Water is as clear as.

The mist on the glass is algae, so you either need algae eating fish like small plecs, Ottos, or snails, or get a magnet cleaner.

I have 3 pitbull plecs that dp this job nicely for me.
