Hi all, I am buying a Juwel Trigon 190 (190 litre capacity) and am considering making it mainly a one species tank of Gouramis. What would be the forum members recommendations be as to which ones to use, and how many. I would obviously also like some community fish as well to make it more appealing. I am also putting this posting in the 'Betta & Gouramis' forum.

i have always liked the blue, opaline, and gold gouramis, they are all from the same family, pearl ones are very pretty, and the most colourfull ones are the dwarfs, with a tank your size you can pretty much take your pick

Hi, You could go for a Nice Mix.

You can go for the Regular Common Blues, Gold, Moonlight, Opaline. Which will get very big and look very nice with their long fins and feelers.

Or You can go for a Honey Gourami Tank with Sunset Honeys, Red Honeys, Dwarf Honeys. And Mix in Powder Blue Dwarves.

You could go for a Tank with Just Sparkiling, Liqourice and Honeys.

Or a Mix of Large and Dwarf.

Its Up to you, but you must get the male female ratio spot on, or just a male tank.

HTH

I had a gourami tank once.

I had 4 Golds, 2 Blues, 6 Dwarfs (2 Poweder Blue, 2 Flame or the orange ones, 2 Regular with the original blue and red), a pair of Pearls, and 3 Striped Gouramis.

Also had a blue paradise fish. Was a colorful setup.

It was a active tank. I still keep gouramis but sold off many. I now keep koi angels and am getting them a new home of their own soon.

Watch out for golds they can be very aggressive toward others of the trichogaster family ( Blue, Three spot and Gold) You should probably get just females also as the is not really a difference in colour. With exceptions do dwarves and a few others

I have two pair of blues in my tank along with a few swordtails and platies. The gouramis will play "tag" and chase each other a little bit but they are not really being aggressive towards each other. They do not bother the other fish at all. Since I have had them, their color has really come out and they are now a beautiful metallic blue color instead of the washed out color at the LFS :D

I'll put my $0.02 in behind Pearl Gourami.

They're incredibly beautiful, especially if you have a male and female to court one another. What you'll see in the fish shop is not likely to do them any justice to how they'll look at home. They're also one of the less aggressive of the non-dwarf gourami.

All in all a wonderful, wonderful fish.

Avoid any sensitive gourami such as the chocolates, which are nice looking fish but require a lot of work.

When buying gourami, as mentioned above, try to get more females than males, a ratio of around 1:3 would be great as male gourami can get extremly aggresive, especially when spawining. Another thing is not to keep too many, since pretty much all gourami swim at the top of the tank you'll need to limit the number you get.
