While looking for a used tank recently I came across a black 180L Juwel which was allegedly only 5 months old. The cabinet was a bit scuffed and the laminate had came away from the wood slightly but I think it showed up worse because of the dark colour.

My Juwel is finished in beech and, after 8 years, still looks in very good condition. I am looking to upgrade for a more contemporary look but now I'm concerned the black wood wouldn't last as well.

Just wondered what colour preferences people have and if anyone has experienced similar wear with a black aquarium.

Thanks,
- dins.

My 300 litre is beech with brushed aluminium. I like the lighter colour as it brightens up the room. Black is too dark for my liking.

i just sold a aqua vital 160 corner tank that was in a beech colour, but due to new furniture and flooring it has giving me a chance to buy a new juwel vision 260 in a dark wood stand that co-ordinates with the rest of the room :D

I like the beech effect too as I think it brightens the room. It's all personal preference though, there's not really one better than any other.

I think the Beech colour looks nice too, just fancied a change. Was more worried about the damage factor, (I have 2 dogs, 3 cats and a clumsy 3 year old) especially if I buy a new one. A few of the black tanks I've seen on e-bay also look a bit shabby.

If I can get a Python system going for water changes, that should reduce the potential for water damage I hope.

I think I read somewhere once about repairing scuffs with boot polish or something. I'll have a look.

Thanks everyone.
