Got a new background from aquamaniac and it looks terrific - I have two options to get it to fit into my fluval profile tank which has a glass centre brace :-

1: Cut the background in half following the contours of the rock and hope the join doesn`t look too noticeable once in the tank.

or

2:Remove the centre brace to get the background in and then silicone the brace back on.

At the moment I`m thinking about option 2 but would like some advice on this - was thinking of draining the water down to under half way and then bracing the tank externally with a long clamp. Then remove the glass brace by cutting away the silicone allowing me to fit in the background.

Once in place I would silicone the brace back on and clamp it overnight to the let the silicone cure before adding the water back in. Sound like a good plan or any other ideas ?

Thanks.

I assume it's a 3D background. Does it need to be siliconed in to keep from moving or to keep fish from getting behind it? Most do in one way or another. If that's the case, I think you need to completely empty the tank and clean it so the silicone will stick. How about filter input/output placement? I could be wrong so a little youtube search might help too. I've seen people split the background and re-assemble in the tank and it looks fine. I never liked altering the integrity of a tank but if you are saying that the brace is only siliconed anyway, I guess you could take it off and replace the same way. Good luck and post some pics. I've been interested in these for a while.

Thanks,
Steve

Its a 3d rock background and doesn`t need siliconed in ... have been doing a bit of online reading and I just might go for cutting the background. Would be easier in the long run for cleaning etc.

If I were to muck up the brace in anyway then that could potentially ruin the whole tank

you are playing with fire.....this is a flood and a cracked tank waiting to happen....

the only way to do this is to empty the tank completely 100%
