I'll start up my own topic for a few reasons - to share how my tank and any new tanks I get grow and change, as well as to gain any insights into how I can improve the design or any other aspects.

Overall beginning design

I actually noticed that this morning too, he is the only one with a chunk missing, on the dorsal too. Are barbs prone to nipping there own kind? At the LFS they were in a species only tank (all young together).Or is this fin rot or something similar that I should be doing something about?

Doesn't look like fin rot IMO, although I wouldn't rule it out quite yet.

Keep up with tank maintenance and you will be fine. If you see the fish nipping at him then you know for sure thats the problem. A little bit of Melafix for healing wouldn't help either.

Ok, so I received a new tank for xmas - moved my seven zebra danios, three remaining Rosy barbs and a Red Tailed Shark to the new tank - 75 gallon/ 270 litres.

Unfortunately one Barb and the RTS didn't survive long after the move. There is a lot of room for the little shoal of danios and barbs, just added a BN Plec and a RTS, looking to add a pair of Kribensis, and some more shoaling fish soon.

whole tank (haven't added background yet) showing sand/gravel scape - couldn't fit in very right which has another internal filter and heater.
