When soaking new wood in a bucket of water to let tanin find it's way out, is it ok to do with in normal tap water? or must I dechlorinate it so that chlorine doesn't go into the wood? Or must I go all the way and always replace the brown water every time with old tank water?

Use boiling hot water, tannen's leach faster, and norm tap water is fine

thanks! WOWIE! A reply! I'll do just that! I take it boiling the water therefore kills off the chorline's harmfulness?

no but it kills buggs in and on the wood, clorine it not a problem while just cleaning

ok, thanks. So, is there anything I should do before putting the wood in the tank to make sure I don't pollute my water with Chlorine? and how long should I soak the water for? (I'll be changing over the water a few times a day, but I'm not sure whether 1 day is enough or if I need to do it for longer? A week? or is that more than necessary?)

I've soon bog wood can leach up to 6-8 months so the soaking will help but will never stop it if it's going to takea long time.

Just soak to kill bugs in hot water the clorine will not kill your fish and leaving it in water for 12 hours all clorine wil go anyway
