Lovely Fronts Sue. :good:

Thanks, Ferris and stang.

The subdominant is getting picked on too much. He has several battle scars and nipped fins. I am debating still what best to do. There are four females and two males. One advice was to remove the dominant as he spends all his time patroling everybody. They are all six gorgeous fronts. Lots of offers to take some off my hands. lol I hope to get a fish room soon. I am tempted to set up a larger tank for them and use this one for the clowns and Synos.

My biggest regret is being talked into putting clown loaches in a Rift tank and even the multis Synos are a mistake in the long run. It all has to be changed before I can breed. I guess it is an excuse for a Syno Tank and a Clown Loach Tank.

Yes in deed! I hope soon to have a fish room. Must, must, must fill it with tanks, both big and small!

This tank included 2 male and 4 female Moba frontosa. The subdominant male got so beat up that I finally had to move him. I just plopped him in the Bismark front tank next to the Moba tank. He spent the next week dancing at the glass trying to get through and letting one and all know that this fight was not over.

After I moved him, his girlie that always hung on his side of the tank, started getting all the torment until she also was ragged and beat. Three fish would corner and come at her at once!

So I took the 10" (w/o the tail) Burundi to the African Cichlid lfs for $35. (sob) (The Burundi looked quite grand in their larger tank at the top orf the tanks. There he treaded water with his airplane like fins grandly spread and looking down on his new world.) When I got home I put the ragged Moba in there. Then I caught her a few hours later, taking everything out a second time, and plopped her in with him. He chased her a bit, but she has found a spot that seems to be working for now.

The main tank seems to have settled down now. The dominant takes dashing shots at the girls but everyone seems spread out enough and not overly picking on any one. I will have to watch for a few days or so to see. There is one other girl that looked a little tattered, but maybe it will settle down. If anyone knows a bit about this, offer what you know.

Interestingly, as always happens, there were mishaps. A compressecep got picked up hiding in a corner of a rock and found himself flopping out of water. It took me awhile to figure out what the noise was. But I got him in time--I hope. A multi also refused to come out of a crevice in a rock, but I left that rock in the tank for him.

There should be 5 x 5" clown loaches in there. I never saw one! I took all the rocks out, but no clowns. This afternoon there was a clown checking out the new arrangements. Sneaky little beasts!

Sadly I cant offer any help as I have never kept cichlids but I love your fish. For a while now my next planned tank will involve frontosas. I was only going to keep the one fish with another similar size cichlid in a large tank.(Jack Dempsey,Buttie,or Jaguar cichlid). Dont know if this would work as the fish are from different waters? Your tank is changing my mind though, now thinking of 1male,2female fronts and maybee shelldwellers. Im only just learning about cichlids and your thread is a big help, keep us updated. :good:

It is quite a show tank and the Moba fronts are awesome. But as far as I have been able to determine Tang shell dwellers and New World Cichlids are not compatable with the fronts or each other both for temperment and tank conditions. Compresseceps are a nice looking variety that will do well with them. I believe there may be some other deep water Tanganyikans that are compatable, but I don't have the names now. The fronts and compresseceps will breed in the same tank also. Synos are Tanganyikan and are a nice addition, although they will compromise any breeding.

Good luck working out your plan.

I am quite happy with the balance of the tank now with the other two out. There is still some jockeying and aggression, but it seems to not be doing any more harm. The girl I took out is very ragged looking, and I am a little concerned about her. I have added a dose of MelaFix/PimaFix to help out the healing. I suppose I will end up passing them on to another home once they are healed up.

I saw a gorgeous 12" (w/o the tail) pimwe front with a 12" oscar. That was one unhappy front. The Oscar harrassed him constantly. The front managed but I figured eventually he would die from the stress.

Thanks for the compliments. :)

I thought I would update.

The pair are still mending in the ex-Burundi Tank. The fellow hides in the Old Burundi's clay pot, but the girlie comes out, mostly because her hidey hole is in view from the outside, I am sure, but it is protected from the male.

Her fins got white trim, so I treated them both with Maracyn and Maracyn II for fin rot. It looks okay now. I have not decided what to do about them. I would surely take a bath to sell them.

The other tank is settled. The dominant Red Fin LuBufu compressicept even comes out to survey his aquarium world now that the major war is over. I miss the look of the other two in the tank, but it is for the best.
It all needs rescaping, so I will wait awhile to post new pics.

the shellies would be lunch for the fronts.
late night snacks too as fronts love to patrol at night when there's smaller activity in the tank.
mouthful is all they need :hey:
