Hi this is just a post to see if anybody has been stung by these before and how bad was it.

also i keep an acanthodoras spinosissimus and they can produce venom to deter predators.

do you think this could harm you if your hand was in the tank and the venom is in the water ?

and do you think it would kill the fish in your tank?

is the venom dangerous?

I don't know if it's classed as venom, but there is toxic substance secreted by their fins (at least that's the case with a lot of other catfish).
Only affects you if you get stabbed by one of the fins (usually when catching the fish). One of the guys who used to be at my work said he got a pectoral fin of a striped talking catfish in is hand when trying to untangle the struggling fish from a net and his hand swelled up in pain for a few hours.

I've been jabbed by a small corydoras on the thumb (they also appear to have a toxin) and it also went red and swollen but only for about 15 mins and it wasn't unbearable pain or anything.
