Talk About Speaking Too Soon :( New Pics...

Its strange, isn't - how we anthropomorphise our pets - but yes, they do look very unhappy.. :(

I've had it confirmed by my lfs (and a second one to make sure) that they're suffering from fin rot. They're the only 2 in the tank that are - however, there's still a little whitespot about in the tank.. which I thought had gone, but seems to be re-occurring.

The spare tank is still cycling - thought that would be ok, but the ammonia is through the roof - so no cycled filter for the hospital tank.

I've been advised that either pouring myxazin neat onto the fish, or plenty of baths in it might help, but until I've cleared the whitespot, I'm going to be struggling... and preparing myself for a few more casualties... :(

btw - thanks for replying - it kinda feels better having someone answer.. I've done a water change, and am using just a little salt. Been advised by both lfs, and waterlife to use a very small ampunt of salt in there to help. At the concentrations I'm using, the loaches are fine, likewise with the meds I'm using - as heartless as it feels, if I cut the dose, I run the risk of losing a lot more fish.. :(

Sorry, don't no what to do for the best, with having the whitespot a while now, it might be stressing them with the med, i would still give it a shot at half dosing it, so they are lessed stressed.

I'm almost at the end of the current med cycle anyway - the treatment builds the dose up slowly, with meds foing in daily on days 1, 2 and 3, then a wait till day 6 for a prophylactic dose... My day 3 was last night, but I've done a small water change/grael vac taday after finding the dead loach, so that'll have reduced the concentration of the meds. I'll see how it goes, and maybe stick some carbon in the filter for a bit, and start from scrath at half dose. Thanks again.. :)

Clown loaches are very prone to itch, but funny when it comes to meds, good luck, hope things turn around for you.

How the loaches doing.

not good, I'm sorry to say. We lost another one this morning, and the remaining one - whilst much bigger than the other 2, and therefore, hopefully stronger - is going the same way. I'm not hopeful.. :(

Sorry R.I.P. Not good then poor things awful when you loose fish and you feel so helpless, as you get attached to them..

Just an update...

... last loach died today... :(

He was obviously suffering alot, the finrot had covered him, and I don't think he'd have lasted through the night, so I sadly had to speed him on his way... not an easy thing to do, I can tell you.

On the up side, the rest of the fish seem pretty much ok now. There's a couple of white spots left, so fingers crossed, once the current course is finished, all should be clear...

Sorry R.I.P. Been there done that so no how you feel not nice.
