Taking out filter catrige??

Hey guys i used a friends filter catrige when i was cycling my tank, this cartige isnt made for my tank and i wanted to take it out. Would it be a bad idea to take it out??? I just dont want to loose bacteria.

ya it should be fine. I took a filter from my 10 gal and put it in my 50 gal. i have taken it out for a week now and my levels are at o ppm still. the bacteria should have gone to you other filter.

does ur friedn want it back?? if not mayeb cut it in half and add half of your new filter then add the second half in a couple of weeks??

Its just in a extra compartment of my canister, ther is already carbon, foam, etc. in ther. My friends cartige was just extra to speed up the cycle.

You only used that cartridge to seed the tank at the beginning of the cycle? In that case your filter is well established and you can take it out at any time.
