I just noticed that my little Marie's tail has split almost right down the middle. No fin rot, just a clean split. 30 minutes earlier it was intact. It's kind of baffling me because she has no sharp objects or plants in her tank. Her plants are either silk or made of a soft silicone-like material, the filter is smooth and the current is minimal. Before I ever put her tower in I inspected it inside and out for sharp spots. Nothing...she's been in her current setup for over three months with absolutely no problems.

Again it is not fin rot and she's perfectly healthy. I already use aquarium salt, so, at this point would it be overkill to add something like Melafix/Bettafix? Thanks.

a few drops wouldnt hurt and will help with the healing. a few of my girls have split their tails flairing and it healed up very quick.

I added Melafix yesterday and her tail healed halfway overnight. YAY! So happy :)

I do have a question though...as Marie does get overly excited at the sight of food, should I skip feeding her for a day or two? I'm afraid that if I go to feed her now, she's going to shake that little tail all over the place like she usually does, and re-tear what's healed -_-

Ah, but wont she get even more excited after 2 days with no food? :hey:

Plus, if her fins are healing its important to keep feeding good quality foods, which will aid the healing process :good:

Hahaha, I was able to covertly run over and drop two pellets in before she knew what I was doing, so there was no little "feed me" dance. :p

This morning, two and a half days later, after two treatments with Melafix. Almost good as new!
