well you guys had pointed out that Banana's tail was frayed probably as a result of the plastic plants i had in there.
so i took the plants out. put in a small piece of java moss from my community tank and a sea anemone decoration which is just plastic base with rubber on the "stingers". i've used that before with many other fish and no one has gotten injured, and frankly knowing the material it's made of and having touched it, it can't possibly have ripped his tail like this.
this is the setup after i took out the plastic plants:

yesterday i noticed this:

what could have caused that and how can i fix it? :shout:

is there any chance he is catching himself on you bubbler or the air line tubeing? you have a very similar heater to the ones I use in my small tanks in the winter, so I dont think he is catching himself on that.

other then that have you tested the water to see if any levels are off and its stressing him out? or have you moved the tank recently or is it in a noisy room? all of that could stress a betta into tail biting, I have one that literaly eats his tail to nothing when stressed.

very frequent water changes, a little aquarium salt and a TINY bit of melifix should have it growing back, provided he does not turn around and eat it again.

thanks for the help. i placed him in the middle partition of my betta tank. raised the water level all the way as high as possible so that the current (that's where the filter is) would be lessened. covered his top with the same plastic mesh material i used to make my dividers so none of the other two bettas decide to jump in...now i guess all 3 sense each other and everyone is flaring at the walls and stuff...it's funny!

i changed 30% of the water. added the aquarium salt as per instructions on the box , removed the carbon filter pad and added the melafix as instructed...hopefully he'll heal and the other two bettas will benefit as they both had minor tail injuries as well (one came like that, the other hurt himself jumping over the dividers!)

once again, thanks for the help! :good:

just keep an eye on him, some males flair a bit then get usto being in a divided tank, others it stresses them out even further with having another betta in their space.
