My T. pumilus have bred again! But this time, underneath a cryptocryne leaf are about 30 small fry in a bubble nest. The fry are bigger than I though they would be, easily visible, about the size of an "l". The male is constantly picking them up and rearranging them. Last time they bred and nothing came of it. I'm surprise really to see fry since I just vacumned like a maniac today. It's tank maintenance day.
Here's a picture of the happy pair near the nest. The nest is in the lower left corner or the picture, the yellowish leaf with little brown splotches. He spits them up when they go astray. You can see him guarding the nest in the second picture, and the nest is a little easier to see. Sorry, crappy camera phone! Since the other pumilus died, the pair have been getting along very well. There is plenty of room for her to hide and the tank is densly planted, so the fry might be able to find food, if they require it. I may go get something, but I really don't want to invest too much. It's just really cool to see fry. I can't believe it!
You would think that they would pick a more secluded spot, but nope, they did it right in the open! Exhibitionists!
