Heya everyone, got a question for ya. Do you recommend syphoning? I was thinking of getting a few live plants...probably just java fern. Im thinking of just getting a large enough lava rock to let the fern grow into if i move the rock will the plant be disturbed?

Also I was wondering how you clean sand. Same way?

Siphoning is the best way to change your water IMO, because it creates a vacum effect in the tank. Java fern is good.

I don't quite know what you mean by this....

You vacum sand the same way, except you hover the vac above the sand or else you will end up vacuming out all of the sand.

I'm a bit confused how the plant fits into your syphon question.

I can't answer your question about the plants but regarding the cleaning of your gravel, you can just get one of those GravelVac's from an LFS to clean a portion of your gravel while doing your routine water changes.

You wont need to move the rock to syphon your gravel/sand so your plant will be fine,there is no need to empty the tank of rocks and ornaments to clean gravel.

mind u java fern doesnt mind being moved around. when i moved house i just stuck my java fern and its attached bits of wood in a bucket dry and it was fine
