Does anyone have experience of these fish? I've recently got one for my Tanganikyan setup and I just want to make sure it's getting enough food etc.

It mainly appears at night (as most articles told me it would) so i'm guessing the foods gotta be left for it to find!

Anyways, i feed my other fish a variety of pellets, flake, frozen tanganikyan mix. So would all these be ok as 'leftovers'?

I also put in algae wafers and some cucumber/courgette now and then for my bristlenose... again will the syno munch on these too?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds good in terms of left overs. I usually dont see my syno's eat but they always have a full belly. Anyways the only thing i would recomend is getting a few more i believe that they like to be kept in groups.

yep as Soaup suggested, get more because they are schooling fish.
They are nocturnal but will come out during the day when they feel comfortable.
They don't normally eat vegetable matter but will feed on most things that fit in their mouth. They like frozen and live foods, prawn, fish & earthworms are good for them.
Don't put much food in at night because it can rot and create water quality problems. Any ammonia produced in a tank with alkaline water will become extremely toxic. The higher the PH the more toxic it becomes. Most Tanganyikan tanks have a very high PH.

Cool thanks.

Can i actually put prawns in lol? Like a prawn i can buy from a supermarket lol?

I will be getting 1 more syno, but at the minute i need to wait till - a) i get paid (he was expensive)
b) my LFS only had this one at the moment

yep you can feed them on raw prawn/ shrimp from the local supermarket. Buy half a dozen and freeze them. Then take one out and break a bit off. Defrost it and chop it into small pieces. Offer a few bits at a time until the fish are no longer hungry.
*NB* Don't feed it to Tropheus cichlids because it will kill them.

BUt will it be ok with my Tanganikyans?

Eg, Brevis, Leleupi, Wareni etc

they should be fine with those fish. The brevis might get their shells knocked over but they will just dig them back out.
