Hi everyone i recently heard that tangerine Goby's and Pistol shrimps get on well. I already had the Goby and last week i found my pistol shrimp. The TV has been off ever since and i cant believe the astounding relationship these two guys have. The shrimp has buit a cavern under my living rock into the substrate. I was initially concerned about a cave in but never fear the shrimp has used shells to prop up the structure. Whats even better as they have built it at the front of the aquarium so i can watch all the fun. Has anyone else experienced this with these two wonders of the deep
Yes..this is a very classic marine symbiosis. Classically, it is a watchman goby and the pistol shrimp.
The goby, with better eyesight, warns the shrimp of predators. The shrimp share its food with the goby. Depending upon the species, Pistol Shrimp may also have symbiotic relationships with sponges, corals, or anemones
Its interesting that its normally a watchman as i have a watchmen and i wondered if it would be him. In a way im glad its not as hes gainfully employed keeping my substrated well maintained and the tangerine looked sad with no purpose.
