I have a new swordtail that looks like it has been nipped. It is also sluggish. Is it sick and what can I do. I have 2 other swords and 3 platies.

How many males do u have?
and what size is the tank?

if the tank is over stocked then this is a common problem

I have a 20 gal high.
I have the one male sword and one male Platy.
There are only 6 fish in the tank all together.

It seems to be swimming erratically now up and down the glass. day 3

Mine do that occasionally aswell. But it dosent sound as if the tank is crowded. What I do is i add a little bit of stress coat around the area where the fish is evemtually they calm down. If I have one that dosent calm down i set it in my net breeder so they get a little time alone after about a half hour they chill out.

I will add stress coat but now he is laying at the bottom.

Cripp, if this is a new or fairly new tank, try a large water change using a dechlorinator for the water. The laying on the bottom after some frantic activity sounds like a water quality problem to me.
