How many swordtails can I have in the same 30 gallon tank? I know the 1 gallon to one inch thing, but with swords, since theyre all the same kinds, can I have more?

No just because they are all the same species doesn't mean you can have more... In fact you might want a couple less than the 1 gallon to 1 inch thing... also keep in mind the final size the swords will get. (I'm not sure how big they get) The benefit of having different species is that you can get some that are bottom dwellers, middle dwellers, and top dwellers. Thereby allowing you to kind of get away with have a couple extra fish (but be prepared for extra water changes).

Swordtails always count as 3 inches each in my tank estimates. I favor a light biological load because I know full well that I will also be dealing with a drop or two along the way with the fry added to the load.
