Swordtails

How come Some swordtails at the store are like 4 inchs + tail and some are 2 inchs +tail. Mine is young and is about 2inchs and still growing slowly its just I was thinking about adding more and they only have like giant ones so are they like an hybrid?

They are not a hybrid, just a different strain.

Actually all swordtails in the pet stores are already hybrids with the platies. That's why swordtails and platies have similar color strains. If you want pure swordtails, just joining the Livebearer Assocation.


I think the duck saying that there are different types in the swordtails. Like Koi, Blood, Mickey Mouse and Lyretail swordtails, just name few. Almost all of the strains can reach 4 to 6 inch long expect the balloon swordtail which only reached 3-4inch long.

The giant ones you saw, must from excellent stock with good genetics.
