Swordtail

Its fungus, but some Antifungus fish medicine

when i add the medicine it wont affect any of the other fish will it as he seems to be the only one with it....when my fish had ich i was told that all my fish would be fine from the treatment but it killed my gold pleco :(

It may affect your other fish depending on what they are. Maybe if you have a spare tank, you could add the swordtail to that and then add the medicine? :)

lol at the stupid strawberry tetra

Anti-fungus medicine is different from ick medicine. I had an angelfish with fungus and there was a pleco in the tank, and I added the antifungus medicine as specified in he box and it all went smoothly. The pleco should be fine as long as you follow the instructions on the packaging ;)

ya didnt find out until later that its a dyed fish and thatnks for the advice :)

You need an anti-fungus medicine not bacterial. Look at something like CopperSafe, or Maracyn and Maracyn 2.

I would always isolate the fish and do the full treatment. In your tank you can then dose preventively with a smaller dosis, just to get rid of any spores of the fungus that might be in your tank.

so i got the API MELAFIX:Antibacterial fish remedy
this is fine to put in with a pregnant fish or no?
Or in the UK, you could use Interpet Anti-fungus treatment, the antibacterial thing you bough is useless as your fish don't have the internal bacterias.

it says that it treats open red sores, fin and tail rot, eye cloud, pop eye, body slime, mouth fungus and open body wounds......and my fish has a mouth fungus and it treats it

Oh it should be fine then, I was led by the name to believe it was only for internal bacteria. :hey:

I agree with Biulu - this is why it's always nice, even for beginners, to have a hospital/quarantine tank. But if you don't then it will have to be a whole community tank treatment. Let's hope the labeling of that med is correct and not just a wild claim - I wonder if any here have used it for mouth fungus? Seems like Maracyn is the more well-known for this?
