I have some swordtail fry which I have just taken out of my breeding trap and put them into a goldfish bowl with the same tank's water.
The bowl has an airstone running but no heater.
Is it ok to have no heater?
Thanks

You may get away with it. Are you in the UK? If so then they may be fine. These can be acclimatised over time to accept a more temperate climate. I know someone that used to keep them outside in a pond over the summer.

Ideally you would be better getting another smaller tank, something around 30 litres would be ideal and keeping them at 24-26 degrees.

I live in Christchurch, New Zealand, I do have other small tanks and a spare heater but I really don't want to have to set up another tank.

Well that's up to you mate. If your temperature is ok then you may get away with it, but i would set up a small tank just to make sure.

Good luck!

I have them in a small tank with sponge filter and heater now.
