Hi

I have a growing population of swordtails. I now have about 50 fish in a 60 UK gallon tank (210 liters). I am having problems with the filter that needs cleaning every week. The power of the water coming out dies down over the week so it ends up dribbling out not causing much of a ripple. I have got a air pump which comes on and off during the day.

Does anyone have any advice? If I got another filter to connect to the tank do you think this will work or will i have the same problem?

Thanks

By the way i am looking for homes for about 25 of my fish. Please see the buy, sell, swap section.

i'm sure the extra filter would help if only a little, good luck rehoming them, i would of gladly had a few if i had the space

Is it getting clogged? Can you remove the impeller and clean it out? If it is getting clogged, putting a mesh over the intake will keep things from getting sucked into it and clogging it.

I put a pair of tights over the inlet pipe, but this blocked quickly and I had to take it out as it reduced the water flow.

Try something with less restriction. You can get a sponge, like one for an AquaClear filter, cut a slit into it, and then slide it onto the intake tube.
