Hi Guys,

Has anyone ever kept these before.
seen them in a few LFS recently and now they have settled in to the water conditions, they look amazing.
Never seen a characin with fins like that and the colors are amazing.

Swordtail Characin

They are easy to keep once they have settled in. They are fine in alkaline water and eat just about anything offered. The picture in the link doesn't do them justice. They are normally a cream colour and the male develops really long filaments off the edge of his pectoral fins. These filaments get a little round bit on the end. Males also have a slightly longer lower lobe on the caudal fin (tail).

yeah totally agree, the pix on the net don;t do them a bit if justice. when the light catches the shimmering of the fins - WOW just WOW.
i am gonna put them outdoors once i have treated for the leeches.

Quick pic i took of them a few weeks ago. they have grown more since then and will be taking new pix of them in the morrow.
