Swords Can Be Nasty

I found this video on my computer today. These are my 2 adult FEMALE swordtails, which goes to show not all swords are nice to each other. These two truly hated each other, they have never bothered other fish. The koi doesn't even bother her "now adult" fry. These battles occurred a couple times a day lasting about 3-5min. I figured they where establishing a pecking order, but 3 days later they where still going at it, so I put a divider in the tank to separate them. This was a couple months ago and the red one has since moved to a different tank, where she is the only sword. I'm guessing if left together one would eventually dispatch the other . Some evil fish, but too pretty to hate for their bad ways .

It's just them competing for dominance, this is very common in all livebearers, esp if the two fish are very simulator matched.

swords tend to be aggressive but I've never seen females do that.
