Hi

I have a betta in a 12L with a platy and swordtail and some little tetra - all about 2-3cm. (Petstore sold me the combination). Usually everyone stays out of the betta's way. Sometimes he charges them, but the way too quick for him.

But I noticed one evening that the platy was occasionally nipping his tail. But that happened only one evening.
The betta now has a swollen right eye. Just the eye. As if it got inflated, alot. The betta also spends much more time on the gravel surface?

Is he under attack, is he stressed? Pls help?

Thanx.
Rifaat.

It sounds to me like you betta has "pop eye" there is an interpet treatment you can buy that you add to his water that will clear it. It is caused by a parasite and if not treated the betta will loose his eye and may even die from it.

Wish i could remember the name of the treatment but i'm at work, i think its the one for internal parasites. Any way good luck with it and let us know how you get on

One of mine had that and I treated it with popeye meds and it made a complete recovery. When I started treatment it was nearly dead. Hope yours gets better. :good:

12l is only 2.72us gal so it sounds like you could be a bit overstocked in such a small tank. water quality could be a contributing factor. what are your water stats? how often do you do water changes? how big are your water changes?

I didn't see that. That size tank would be perfect for just the betta but is way to small for the amout of fish you have in there. The rule tends to be 1inch of fish to 1gal of water. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the LFS said that what you have is perfectly fine.

How is your boy any way? any sign of change?

i do a 30% water change twice a week
i was planning to add some treatment today, but last night when i did my water change noticed that the eye was back to normal
