Hellooooo! Well I'm going to be firing up my ginormous Tetra Ex1200 soon and I'm wondering how you reccomend I change to it from my internal Interpet PF1. I know some people run two filters side-by-side and some just move the filter media from one to the other.

Which should I do? Why do you think that method is better?

Thanks!! :D

Just take everything out of the old PF filter and put it in the bottom basket (This way it'll help seed the new filter faster) then you have a tetratec1200 that is fully cycled to your current stock :good:

Next maintainance move the PF1 media to the top basket so that its handy to get out if you need to reuse your old filter in a hurry (like when you get another tank and want it cycled now!)

Thanks Juggler :) I didn't want to put that naff old internal in my new "equipment free" tank anyway! :p

Fingers crossed I'm going to fill the tank tonight sooo maybe move the fish over tomorrow? We'll see how long it takes me to read the manual for the filter

Add some dechlorinated water, sort out decor, top up with more water, turn on filter wait to heat up then move fish. Remember if you have the media in the external you'll have no filter in your old tank

Yeah, I was thinking I'd turn the filter on and let it run but not actually move the media until the time I move the fish.
