Switching from gravel to sand?

Is it possible to switch the gravel in my 10gal to sand? The tank has some fish in it so how would I go about it?

i just took everything out but left the fish in it then just changed it.

Should I take any water out?

Also how much should i need for a 10gal in KG (I am going to use playsand)
