hi all,

my male betta has been acting strange for quite awhile now. I am thinking that he may have swim bladder disorder.

He never hangs around the sides anymore of the bowl, really only coming to the surface for air and to eat. He use to be playful and really aware of his surroundings. Now he just lays kinda twisted on his side on the bottom all the time. His appetite is still good but he is just not the same guy he used to be.

does this sound like a swim bladder problem to you?

from what I have read, this condition can be cured? What are some things I can do to help him?

thanks!

Allie

What do you feed him? He might need a good clean out if he is constipated, I give mine a pea once weekly thawed in boiling water cooled and shelled. Check your water also it could be a problem with that.

I really dont know anything, I just wanted to wish you luck with you little guy! Hope he gets better :good:

If it is swimbladder he may also look a little bloated. Does he? If so do the pea method mentioned above.

Do you have filtration in the tank? If not, maybe he needs a tank cleaning. Water quality can affect the way the act sometimes.

Good Luck :good:

thank you all for your replys!

He has always been in a 1 gallon bowl that we change out the water completely once a week. But I do only feed him the
Hikari Betta Bio Gold baby pellets. I do not vary his diet. But I don't think I overfeed either as I feed a total of 5 pellets a day.

I will try the cooked pea though. Do I really need to vary his diet? He does seem alittle swelled looking.

again, thanks for all your help!

Allie
