Bought myself a rio 125 today, currently have a 70ltr Juwel. I am running a matured Fluval U2 filter in the current tank, but this is only rated to 110ltrs. I am thinking about going for a U3 as I like these filters, and don't really want an external.

Would it be a good option to set the new tank up with current sand/water (topping it up with temp matched/treated water), adding both my old filter AND the new one for a few weeks? I don't really want to start a new cycle if I can avoid it. I know I could add some of the current media to the new filter, but I am planning on selling the current tank/filter in a few weeks so seems best to run two filters together until the new one matures?

Running two filters will mean that bacteria won't grow as well in the new one, as the established filter will do most of the job.

I'd swap all your old media into the new - you could always offer an amount of this established media to the buyer if your old filter if you wished.

Thanks, yeah didn't think of that, very true. Probably best to do that then I reckon :) Hoping to get it all set up this week.

Just finished cleaning it, boy what a mission was filthy :( Half filled in garage now to double check it's water tight before it's set up.
