i have just bought a 2ftx18x18 fishtank which is to house my schooling fish as i renovate my main 4ft tank. The tank was orginally a saltwater setup. As concerns for my fish, i need to know of things i may not know of before i begin with my procedures. Is there any particular method of cleansing a saltwater tank to make it into a freshwater tank? will a scrub n good hose down of water be enough?

Are you going to use the filter from the FW tank? Or are you going to clean out the SW filter, thn use it for a FW tank? (I believe Sw and FW filter bacteria are different).

with the tank i recieved 2 hang on filters "millenium 2000". i wasnt sure if thsoe filters were used on sw or fw (i forgot to ask teh seller, n havnet had time to have a look at teh media jsut yet).

update: i have cleaned teh tank, mainly scrubbing the gunk on glass with the magnectic cleaner and plain water.

its not to much of a chore to change back from saltie to fresh but spinal is right the bacteria in the tanks are completely different so if you are going touse a saltie filter it will need to be fully steralised before use, get all the filter media out of the filter and give it a god soak through with boiling water, if the media is sponges it might be far less hassle to buy some new ones they are cheap :)

id give the tank a once over with some warm and soapy water aswell the salt can really get stuck in there then give it a rinse out with cold water after, set up the system and let it bed in and cycle for a good while before adding anything and you should be fine :)
