Hi all,
Although I've washed the gravel and rocks throughly, again and again,I observe ultra tiny particles and dust in my 125 lt tank.My Eheim 2010 internal filter's working 24 hrs ,the fish seem ok in the foggy water but well I guess not cloudy , I am irritated every time I look through the tank ,it makes me nervous.
This filter has a capacity of 500lt/hr max and has only a sponge in it and I don't want to invest for an external filter.

What should I do to get rid of the dusty fog in the water?

Thank you all in advance.

No matter how much you wash gravel - there'll allways be a bit of dust in suspension....

...this should settle down over time.... - though I'd also recomend some filter floss which should trap alot of it ..... if its still a problem then water changes should help :/

:)

Hi portisheader

It is possible to clean gravel, so the you do not get this problem. It is just a case of cleaning it under a running tap, in very small quantities, for a long time. It takes a lot of time, but is worth it.

The first few tanks that I set up had the same problem, it does clear over time.

I then spent more time cleaning the gravel for my next tanks. Crystal clear water.

my tank did this too. don't sweat it at all. it will definitely settle. might take over a week, but it will. I had fish in with the foggy water and it didn't seem to bother them. and it made me nervous too. but it went away all on it's own. have no fear. as long as your filter is running, you'll be fine.

I agree with all of the above, and especially with wetwetwet,to add some filter floss. The other thing I would add if you are concerned and want a quick fix is Accu-Clear. How it works is you turn off your filtration system for a few hours. Add Accu-clear in the water, it will turn the water milky as it gathers the fine particulates in the water, clumps them together and brings them to the bottom of your tank. When you switch the filtration back on , it will gather up all the clumped particulates and as it goes through the floss in your filter, it actually polishes the outgoing water leaving you with a sparkling tank.
