Hi all. Against my better judgement, I purchased six Sterbai cories at a fish store that seems to have a lot of quarantined tanks. I'm used to my fish getting Ich almost every time I add new fish, but this time, I'm really not sure what's going on.
Within days of purchasing the cories, one of the smaller catfish died (he had lost all his color and was floating at the top). Then, a few days later, another catfish became so listless and emaciated, I had to euthanize him. Around that same time, one of my marble hatchets went missing (found him dead when I cleaned my tank).
Symptoms mainly include flashing and darting around in a crazy/irratic way--expecially when finding food pellets at the bottom. As the illness progresses, they stop eating, become listless, or keep swimming to the top of the tank, either resting on top leaves of plants or constantly taking gulps of air.
I treated the tank with Tetra Parasite Guard--two doses over a four-day period with a water change and they seemed to be doing better, but I just noticed the larger of the four remaining cories flashing again and one of the smaller ones doesn't seem to be eating, but instead spending it's time at the top of the tank.
Should I do another round or two of the Tetra Parasite Guard or try something else? The instructions do say that if it's flukes or mites to treat again the following week. But if I can't SEE what it is, then how am I supposed to know? I did notice one of the smaller catfish looked like he had a hole in his head, but he's so small and quick--plus Sterbais DO have spots--I'm not positive.
I have a planted tank that I just re-landscaped yesterday and don't want to use anything that would harm them.
Any suggestions?!
